Learn to Play Competition

Where will the games be played?

All games will be played at Block V, Sydney Uni – Cumberland Campus on East St in Lidcombe, the same location as where we hold our Lidcombe classes.

Exact game times are subject to team and player enrolments but we estimate that U10 scrimmage/game learning session will play 12.45pm to 2.00pm, U12 will play 2.00pm to 3:30pm and U14 will play 3:30pm to 5:00pm. However, please note that these times are estimates and may be adjusted slightly depending on number of players.

On Saturday October 19th we will run ‘muster days’ for U10, U12 & U14. Muster days are games, were we grade players to help us form competitive teams and both new and existing players are welcome to attend. The U10 muster will run 12:45pm to 2:00pm, U12 will run 2:00pm to 3:15pm and U14 will run 3:15to 4:30pm, all on October 19th at our Lidcombe location.

Official games will then begin on October 26th and run until December 7th including finals/bronze medal games. Full dates are as follows: 26/10, 2/11, 9/11, 16/11, 23/11, 30/11 and 7/12 (finals, bronze medal games, etc.).

The cost for an individual is $195.00 for the season and that includes all games, a coach for the games and a reversible jersey (new players only). Prices have increased as adding additional coaches as we move to official teams in all age groups has increased costs.

The cost for a full team will be $1050.00 but teams must provide their own jerseys and coach unless arrangements have been made prior with Young Hoopers administration staff.

Invoices will be sent via Xero to your email address and can be paid either by card or bank transfer (bank details on the invoice), we reserve the right to remove those that do not complete payment from the competition.

Players in U10 must be 10 or younger for the duration of 2024 (i.e. you cannot turn 11 in 2024 and play U10s) and all U10 games will be played on an 8ft basket. These games have a heavy emphasis on teaching game concepts such as man on man defense, transition play, etc.

Players in U12 players must be under 12 for the duration of 2024 and /U14 must be under 14 for the duration of 2024 (i.e. you cannot turn 14 in 2024 and play U14s). These games are played on a 10ft hoop, each team with a coach and still focused on development primarily.

A child may play multiple age groups (i.e. a skilled nine-year-old could play U10 and U12 if they wished) if they qualify for both age groups but this will an additional payment of season fees.

Games for U10 are made up of two 15-minute halves and take approximately 40 minutes to complete. Then for U12 & U14 games are made up of two 18 minutes halves and will take approximately 45-50mins to complete.

Teams will have between six and nine players and will have a coach provided by Young Hoopers if registered as an individual player. All age groups will be mixed (i.e. boys and girls in one competition) except U14 is boys only, in U10 & U12 there is minimal physical differences between the sexes so mixed is suitable for those groups.

Each game will have a referee and a bench person provided by Young Hoopers. Our competitions are designed to help players learn the fundamentals of the game so referees will work with coaches, particularly in U10, to ensure players learn the rules and basic concepts of basketball while playing.

The season schedule, results and ladder will be shared on our affiliate The U League’s website

(www.theuleague.org.au) under the heading “Lidcombe Junior Competition” once nominations are finalised.
